hi, I am Matteo

I am an extrovert, a curious mind, and I like to build things.

My path has been guided by a fascination with life and engineering intelligence. I first wanted to understand how the world works, so I studied physics and self-organizing matter at university. I then realized biological systems are just complicated meshes of self-organizing matter, so I worked as a researcher in theoretical neuroscience labs. From there, I realized neural networks and differentiable programming are complicated meshes of self-organizing matter, so I did a PhD in ML and Neuroinformatics. To actually build intelligent systems myself, I got an ETH fellowship, spending two years on edge AI, mechanistic interpretability, and building LLMs. I now work in frontier AI labs and companies, where the frontier of research is actually being built.

Most importantly, I am a human being going through this life with the help of human connections. I believe in open communication, the right to seek your goals and your freedom, and empathy. Together with a deep openness to technological advancement, these will bring humanity to its best future.
